Learn More about Gauge Sizes:

The Cut-Out

This is the hole that is cut in the dash for the case of the gauge to fit through. Tachs and Speedos will have larger cut-outs than gauges such as your voltmeter, water temperature, oil pressure, etc... All gauges that we sell are measured by their cut-out size. These are the most common cut-out sizes:

  • 2-1/16" - Standard Size Guages. Water Temp, Volts, Oil Pressure, etc...
  • 2-5/8" - Monster Size Guages. Water Temp, Volts, Oil Pressure, etc...
  • 3-3/8" - Standard Size Tachometer or Speedometer
  • 4-5/8" - Monster Size Tachometer or Speedometer

The Gauge - Side View

The case of the gauge if where all the gauges internal elctronics and mechanisms are stored. The Case is marginally smaller than the cut-out and is designed to fit through the hole. The Rim of the gauge is generally about an 1/8" larger than the case on all sides. This allows it to rest against the dash or a bezel without being pulled through.

The Gauge - Rear View

The case of the gauge if where all the gauges internal elctronics and mechanisms are stored. The Case is marginally smaller than the cut-out and is designed to fit through the hole. The Rim of the gauge is generally about an 1/8" larger than the case on all sides. This allows it to rest against the dash or a bezel without being pulled through. The bracket, shown as the long rectangle in this drawing is a U shaped piece that mounts on two studs on the back of the gauge. The bracket is pressed against the dash and nuts are threaded onto the studs to secure the gauge in place

The Gauge - Front View

The diameter of the front of the gauge will be about 1/4" larger than the cut-out or case diameter. Once installed the rim will sit securely upon the dash while the case runs through the cut-out hole.
